🔼 First Dub. The baseball team won game one of the AAC Championships 12-4 over Rice. The Pirates were down 4-0 but had a massive comeback to win the game. The men scored 12 runs in the eighth inning. Jacob Starling hit a solo home run. Ryley Johnson led the team with three RBIs and went 2-for-3 at the plate. The Pirates will play Wichita State on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET.

🔼 Golden Hour. USA Baseball selected Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman and Trey Yesavage as semifinalists for the 2024 Golden Spikes Award. The award honors the amateur baseball player who exhibits exceptional athletic ability and exemplary sportsmanship. There are 20 different schools in this year’s semifinalist group.

Lunsford-Shenkman threw 77 strikeouts against 17 walks in 45 innings. He sports a 1.20 earned run average, and opposing batters are only hitting a .218 against him. Yesavage is third in the country with 11 victories and fourth with 139 strikeouts. He is fifth in earned hits allowed per nine innings with 5.02, sixth in strikeouts per win innings with 14.55 and ninth in WHIP at .88.

🏴‍☠️ Cliff Godwin. This is Godwin’s fifth time earning Coach of the Year in his career. He led the Pirates to a 40-13 regular season record and a 19-8 conference record.

🏴‍☠️ Defensive Player of the Year. Ryley Johnson is the center fielder, and he had many highlight-reel catches this season. He hasn’t committed an error in 115 defensive chances.
