Pirate Brew 8/14: Almost Real
Today, we're looking at results from football's scrimmage.
Good morning. Need a morning pick me up? ECU football players can help you out with that as they show off their best pickup lines. Let them know whose is best in the comments!
What else are we mixing into today's Brew?

🔼 Almost Real. The Pirates got a taste of what a real game is going to feel like after competing in their first intra-squad scrimmage this past weekend. Not only that, but man was it hot out. Coach Mike Houston said the heat put up an added pressure, but that it was something that the team has to get used to.
When it comes to making plays, the head coach emphasized taking care of the ball. The run game was strong all day and the defense was playing aggressive. The best part of the scrimmage? Not a single missed field goal or extra point too. Read more of what Coach Mike Houston had to say about the scrimmage here.
🔼 Get To Know Her. We have a new face joining the soccer staff this season. Sydney Hall, a Sherrill’s Ford, North Carolina native will be an assistant coach for ECU. Her experience included being a graduate assistant at Columbus State University and playing at Colorado State University as a goalkeeper from 2015-2019.

🔼 Pinkies Up. That feeling when your teammate runs your 30-yard pass in for a touchdown is everything. Former Pirate Holton Ahlers passed for the score with rookie Matt Landers for a Seattle Seahawks touchdown in the team’s first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.
He finished the game going a perfect 4-for-4 for 43 yards and a W to start the preseason.
🤔 PIRATES TRIVIA
Sizing Up. Football players are always fluctuating in weight to match their position.
Case in point: Omari Allen is an offensive lineman who weighed 299 pounds as a true freshman last season, but he wanted to gain muscle mass and add a couple of pounds for increased strength and physicality.
Our question today—can you guess how much weight he has added?

We like our Brew hot n’ fresh. But we’re not opposed to you reheating your cup. Here’s some news you may have missed recently…
🏴☠️ Just A Youngin’. When it comes to age, Antione Jackson should be a senior in high school right now. However, this 17-year-old is a true freshman at ECU this season and is earning his stripes. His coverage traits made him such a highly-recruited defensive back and now he’s getting even more tips from the veterans.
🏴☠️ Big Stretch. Zay Jones was way back in the end zone when Trevor Lawrence spotted him and made the throw for a two-point conversion in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ preseason opening win over the Dallas Cowboys. See Zay Jones’ big-time catch here.
