Pirate Brew 10/12: Augustsson At the Top Again

Today, we're looking at Lucas Augustsson finishing in the top 20 for a third time.

Good morning. It’s game day! Here are your plans for tonight— men’s basketball open practice at 5 p.m., then the blackout football game at 7:30 against SMU.

What else are we mixing into today's Brew?

⛳️ Augustsson tied for sixth
⚽️ Tough battle against Memphis
🏴‍☠️ And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 One After Another. Not once, not twice, but three times in a row, Lucas Augustsson has recorded a top-20 finish. Augustsson tied for sixth place at the USF Invitational with a score of 210 (-6). This is the second consecutive event he’s finished under par. The Pirates shot a total of 870 (+6) and finished 10th out of 14 teams.

🔼 Increased Intensity. The ECU soccer team battled Memphis in a very back-and-forth, high-caliber match. Memphis found a way to score one goal against ECU, but the women didn’t let it come easy. That was the first goal allowed at home in 361 days. Catherine Holbrook and Jazmin Ferguson each had very close shots in the last 15 minutes of the game but angled them just a tad wide. The team is now 3-1-1 in conference play.

🤔 PIRATES TRIVIA

Keep the Streak. Volleyball is about to face Temple and the Pirates are ready for a win. The competition has been close. ECU is only down two matches, 9-7, against Temple. But recently, the Pirates have started a win streak against them.

Today’s question— how many games in a row has ECU recently won against Temple?

ICYMI

We like our Brew hot n’ fresh. But we’re not opposed to you reheating your cup. Here’s some news you may have missed recently…

🏴‍☠️ Darling Donors. We would like to give a big shoutout to former ECU Baseball standout Bryant Ward and his wife, Anna, for donating $100,000 to the baseball expansion project. Ward finished his career at ECU ranked fifth in games played (194), seventh in at-bats (687), and left as the winningest player in school history.

🏴‍☠️ Another Thanks. We also can’t forget about Jim and Katie Ward’s donation to the Pirates Unite Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence. The Wards contributed a whopping $100,000, and the money will be designated to the men’s golf program. Jim is a graduate of ECU and played on the men’s golf team during his time there.
