Good morning. We had two sports break program records this past weekend— two athletes on track and field and one athlete in women’s basketball. See who they are below!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Breaking Records. The track and field program had a stellar start to the season at the Hokie Invitational. Royal Burris broke the 16-year standing 300m program record, 34.38 seconds, with his time of 33.79. Melicia Mouzzon broke the 60m program record with her time of 7.29 seconds. Overall, the Pirates posted eight podium finishes and had 14 performances ranked in the top 10 in program history.

🔼 Making Us Happy. The women’s basketball team had such a fun game on Saturday as they took down SMU 68-61. Danae McNeal scored a career-high 35 points and made all 15 of her attempts from the free throw line. She broke the program record of 14-14 by Gaynor O’Donnell for the most free throws without a miss in a single game. The team shot 50% from the arc, 40.9% from the field and 80% from the charity stripe.

We like our Brew hot n’ fresh. But we’re not opposed to you reheating your cup. Here’s some news you may have missed recently…

🏴‍☠️ Doubles Win. The women’s tennis team won the doubles point with three match victories but unfortunately did not take the win against VCU. The Pirates lost 5-2. Kim Auerswald earned her first dual-match singles win as a Pirate.

🏴‍☠️ No. 7. Although the men’s basketball team had a close 69-61 loss against UAB, Brandon Johnson was able to extend his double-double stat. Johnson picked up his seventh double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ezra Ausar also had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
