Pirate Brew 9/6: Fabulous Four

Today, we're looking at four Pirates earning AAC Weekly Honors.

Good morning. Let’s take a trip way back to 13 years ago when Dominique Davis threw a touchdown on a fourth down play with five seconds to spare to beat Tulsa 51-49.

What else are we mixing into today's Brew?

🔼 Triple Threat. The Pirates hit gold this week with three soccer players— Jazmin Ferguson, Ella Steck, and Maeve English— earning AAC Weekly Honors. Ferguson was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career. She helped keep the UNCW game a shutout and scored a goal against High Point.

Steck earned Rookie of the Week after scoring her first career goal against UNCW and adding another one against High Point. English continues to do her thing, you know, shutouts and being a beast in the net. She logged two shutouts last week and a win, only allowing one goal to pass.

🔼 She’s That Girl. As you already know from yesterday's Brew, Carlia Northcross had an outstanding performance last week as she posted a school record for 13 blocks in a single match. Because of that, the AAC named her Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the first of her career.

Northcross hit a .417 against Appalachian State and .625 against Bethune-Cookman. She averaged 1.36 blocks per set over the three Pirate Invitational matches. Watch Northcross on the court at the team's next match against Norfolk State on Friday.

🤔 PIRATES TRIVIA

Definitely Not Butterfingers. There’s one thing you can never call Maeve English— butterfingers— and we have the stats to prove it. This season, English has started in all six games and has only let three goals pass her, but more than five times as many saves.

Today’s question—how many saves does English have so far this season?
