Pirate Brew 8/15: Hometown Wins
Today, we're congratulating Ella Stalvey on a first place win.
Good morning. It’s time to get your brain working with a riddle this morning. What is easy to pick up, but hard to throw? Don’t know it? Women’s soccer has the answer for you.
What else are we mixing into today's Brew?
🏆 Freshman golfer wins South Carolina Women’s Open
⚽️ Women’s soccer ranked fourth in East Division
🏴☠️ And much, much more!

🔼 Quick Win. Ella Stalvey had to show ‘em who’s boss in her hometown before she heads up north to represent ECU—the incoming Pirate was up against 51 professionals and amateurs in the South Carolina Women’s Open and clinched first place, hitting 68, 67, and 70 for a total of 205 (-8).
🔼 High Ranking. The women’s soccer team just got a whole lot of eyes on them after the AAC preseason poll voted them to finish fourth in the East Division—Annabelle Abbott, Maeve English, and Jazmin Ferguson were specifically highlighted after their performance last season.
The Pirates received 35 votes in the poll, placing them just four points behind Florida Atlantic in third and five behind UAB in second, so it’ll be a close race to the top.
Maeve English and Jazmin Ferguson were named Second-Team All-Conference last season and look to live up to those standards again. Annabelle Abbott scored the game-winning goal against No. 19 SMU last season and will continue to make the highlight reel this season.
Take the next step this week 🏴☠️

🔼 Next Steps. The countdown is now at 18 days until kickoff and each day is about to get harder and harder—both for the team on the field, but also for all of us staring at the clock. Head coach Mike Houston shares the enthusiasm and is ready to push the guys so that execution gets closer to perfect.
🤔 PIRATES TRIVIA
Name that player! ECU women’s soccer is just two days away from kicking off the regular season at Florida, so today’s trivia question is about No. 2 himself.
She’s a sophomore defender from Henderson, Nevada, she played in seven games last season, and helped scratch out a much-needed point in a 0-0 draw with Cincinnati last year where she played the full 90 minutes.
