Pirate Brew 10/16: Killer Sweep

Today, we're looking at how many kills the Pirates had in their two-match sweep over Temple.

Good morning. We hope you had fun meeting the Pirate baseball team. Oh, and seeing the legendary Stephen Schoch there too!

What else are we mixing into today's Brew?

🏐 Back-to-back wins
🏃 Cross country women dominate
🏴‍☠️ And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Double Down. Two days, two matches, two wins. ECU took down Temple 3-2 and 3-0 this past weekend to put them at a 7-2 conference standing. Let’s start with match one. The Pirates trailed two sets to none and came back to win three in a row. Lara Uyar had a rare libero double-double with a career-high 10 assists and a match-high 20 digs.

In match two, the Pirates were on a roll with a three-set shutout. Brittany Wood had a season-high 12 kills. The team totaled 43 kills, 8 aces, 53 digs and 10 blocks.

🔼 Battle Won. The Pirates held the annual Pirate Invitational, and they took control of the course and pulled out a first-place win. The women placed first, and Alyssa Zack led the team with a fifth-place finish on a 21:21.7 time in the 6k. The men took fourth place, and Alex Sawyer led the group with his seventh-place 24:00.3 time in the 8k.

🤔 PIRATES TRIVIA

Another Win. The women’s cross country team had an amazing first-place win at the Pirate Invitational, but this isn’t the first time they had this big of a victory at the meet.

Today’s question— how many times have the women placed first in the Pirate Invitational?

ICYMI

We like our Brew hot n’ fresh. But we’re not opposed to you reheating your cup. Here’s some news you may have missed recently…

🏴‍☠️ Dive In. It was just a diving meet for the women’s swim and dive team last weekend, and ECU showed up and swept the board. Jecza Lopez took first place in the 1-meter and 3-meter events, and Caitlin Irvine-Smith placed second in both events. Lopez had scores of 290.78 and 317.70. Irvine-Smith had scores of 262.35 and 259.35.

🏴‍☠️ Timely Tie. ECU soccer looked like it was going to take a dub against Tulsa, then was down by one, but Annabelle Abbott saved the Pirates and tied the game for a final score of 2-2. There was no score in the first half, and Juliana Viera scored the first goal of the match for the Pirates in the second half.
