Pirate Brew 12/4: New Faces for Football

Today, we're looking at John David Baker being named the new offensive coordinator.

Good morning. A new month means new faces for the Pirates. See who we welcome to the football staff below.

What else are we mixing into today's Brew?

🏐 History made in the postseason
🏈 New offensive coordinator
🏴‍☠️ And much, much more!

🔼 History Made. The volleyball team swept The Citadel in the first round of the NIVC but fell to Georgia Southern in round two. The win against The Citadel was the first-ever postseason triumph for the Pirates in their first-ever postseason appearance. Angeles Alderete led the Pirates with 18 kills and 11 digs for her 14th double-double this season. In the Georgia Southern match, Jillian Gray posted a team-high 15 kills. ECU ended its season 21-11 overall.

🔼 Welcome Home. Pirates football welcomes a new face to its staff as John David Baker has been named the new Offensive Coordinator. Baker was previously the co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach for Ole Miss for three years. He posted two of the top-five seasons in total offense in program history, and ECU head coach Mike Houston hopes he can bring the same success to the Pirates.

🤔 PIRATES TRIVIA

Swiping Steals. Danae McNeal surpassed 150 steals in a Pirate uniform after the women’s win over Coppin State. She is almost in the top 10 for career steals in program history.

Today’s question— how many total steals does McNeal have as a Pirate?

We like our Brew hot n’ fresh. But we’re not opposed to you reheating your cup. Here’s some news you may have missed recently…

🏴‍☠️  Big Plays to Win. The women’s basketball team beat Coppin State in a close game with a final score of 59-51. The highlight of the game? Micah Dennis’s buzzer-beater in the second quarter was nearly a full-court shot! Dennis finished with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists. She also scored 10 of the first 12 points for ECU. Danae McNeal also had 17 points, along with three rebounds and five steals.

🏴‍☠️  Twins. Let’s talk more about Micah Dennis’s buzzer-beater. The Pirates were down 22-27 at the end of the second quarter, and Dennis made her shot from the top of the arc from the opposite end of the court. This made ECU only down by two points going into the third quarter. She and Bobby Pettiford are basically twins now, each scoring a long-shot buzzer-beater. And yes, we will be talking about this for a while.
