Good morning. The seventh-seeded East Carolina WBB team defeated the 10th-seeded Memphis Tigers, 64-45, on Sunday evening in the second round of the 2025 AAC Tournament, marking seven wins in the program's last eight games in the league tournament. The victory was a bit of revenge for the Pirates, having lost at Memphis during the regular season.
 
The Pirates (17-14, 8-10 AAC) led wire-to-wire, scoring the first basket 10 seconds in and never giving up their advantage.

ECU will compete at the same time tonight, with a 7 p.m. ET tipoff against second-seeded North Texas in the AAC quarterfinals.

🔼 Who’s Got the Broom? 🧹 Annie Kate Dalton hit her third home run of the weekend as East Carolina (15-7, 3-0 AAC) defeated UTSA, 8-0, to sweep the Roadrunners on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field. This is the squad’s fifth dub in a row.

🔼 Friday, We’re In Love. It was a bad night to be an East Carolina and AAC pitching record Friday, as sophomore LHP Ethan Norby struck out 19 in the Pirates' 7-0 victory over No. 24 Coastal Carolina inside Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
 
ECU (7-6) not only won its fourth-straight game but also received three additional strikeouts from reliever Ethan Young to match the program record of 22 set just last year in a marathon 13-inning win over host William & Mary. Norby (1-2) also surpassed the AAC single-game mark of 18 registered by Memphis' Jonathan Bowlan back on April 28, 2018 and fell just one shy of Hal Baird's school-record 20 in a win over George Washington on May 8, 1970.

After the record-breaking Friday, ECU hit setbacks on Saturday and Sunday. The team gets a chance to channel that Friday night energy, as the baseball team visits VCU tomorrow and Wednesday for a pair of midweek contests.

🔼 Who’s Down For Some Late Night Lacrosse? The East Carolina lacrosse team begins its California trip with a late contest—a 10 p.m. ET meeting with San Diego State tonight at the Aztec's Snapdragon Stadium. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Pirates and Aztecs.

The Pirates saw an epic comeback fall just short at Coastal Carolina in their last contest. Trailing by as many as six goals, the team roared back, twice tying the game in the final minutes. It was not to be, however, as the Chanticleers scored the game-winning goal with 33 seconds remaining in OT.

🥍 : SCOUTING REPORT

🔼 Dynamic Duo. East Carolina WBB’s Amiya Joyner ( First-Team All-Conference) and Devin Hagemann (All-Freshman team) have earned postseason honors from the AAC.
 
Joyner earns First-Team honors for the first time in her career after earning a Second-Team nod last season and Third-Team recognition as a freshman in 2022-23. The do-it-all forward has averaged 14.7 points and 9.0 blocks for the season while registering 50 assists, 33 steals and 30 blocked shots.
 
Hagemann has excelled in the point guard spot as a rookie. In league play, she's posted 7.0 points and 2.8 assists per game and has compiled a team-best 66 total assists on the year.

🔼 Saturday Setback. East Carolina began its road swing with a 4-0 blip to South Carolina State Saturday afternoon in Orangeburg.

Ines Bachir and Xenia Jeromin emerged victorious by a 6-4 margin on court one in doubles play, but the Bulldogs took courts two and three to clinch the doubles point.
 
The Pirates look to get back in the win column tomorrow when they visit Mercer at 3 p.m.

🏴‍☠️ Gridiron Goodness. The East Carolina football team will officially host BYU on Saturday, Sept. 20, and Army on Thursday, Sept. 25, according to an announcement by the AAC a week ago.
 
With the updated selections, ECU will play four games during the 2025 season on Thursday night, two each at home and on the road. The Pirates open the season at NC State (Aug. 28) and begin conference play at home against Army during Week 5.
