Good morning! The last time East Carolina baseball and NC State got together, the two teams decided to compete in a home run derby*, which was a lot of fun to watch!

*Correction: It wasn’t an actual home run derby, but you can forgive us for being confused - the Pirates hit six home runs that day.

🔼 Historic Investment. Van and Jennifer Isley of Raleigh have made the largest one-time philanthropic gift in ECU Athletics and Pirate Club history with a $5 million investment to the Pirates Unite Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence.

Launched in May 2022, the $60 million Pirates Unite Campaign is the most ambitious fundraising effort in Pirate Club history, with critical funds being used to ensure a bright future for the Pirates by investing in the long-term health of the department.

Van Isley is an ECU alumnus and current ECU trustee, and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the school.

🔼 Steadying The Ship. The NC State Wolfpack might just be a sight for sore eyes for East Carolina baseball tonight.

The Wolfpack and Pirates play for the second time this season, in a similar situation as the first. In early April, ECU was coming off a series loss to Houston when it thumped NC State 13-9 at home to jumpstart what turned into a nine-game win streak.

Now, coming off a series loss at Wichita State, the Pirates have an opportunity to steady the ship once again against NC State.

🔼 Rounding Up Records. East Carolina track & field was split over the weekend, and personal bests came in from both Virginia and South Carolina.

Lindsay Yentz PR’d twice over the weekend: She ran 2:12.21 in the 800m, and 10:57.36 in the 3,000m Steeple.

Rileigh Cardin: Season-best clearance of 3.68m in the pole vault.

Chase Osborne: PR of 3:51.49 moves him into seventh in program history in the 1,500m.

Naadiya Faison: PR throw of 16.22m in the shot put to win the event, absolutely crushing her previous PR of 15.28m.

🔼 I’m The Captain Now. History was made over the weekend in Philadelphia.

East Carolina’s Frances Kimel may not have signed the constitution, but she did sign her name into the Pirates record book - her 40 goals this year are the most all-time in a single season at ECU.
