🔼 Pitching is winning. East Carolina employed three of the top five starters in the AAC in terms of ERA this season. Let’s dive into the seasons of Trey Yesavage, Josh Grosz and Carter Spivey.
🔼 Trey Yesavage, RHP. The holder of the best ERA on the team this season, Yesavage’s 2.61 mark was second-best in the AAC.
The sophomore from Boyertown, Pa., was 7-1 in 14 starts this season and gave head coach Cliff Godwin 76 innings on the year. He was also the winning pitcher in ECU’s first win against Oklahoma in the Charlottesville Regional, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing one unearned run.
Yesavage’s .193 batting average against was the best in the AAC by 19 points.
🔼 Josh Grosz, RHP. Grosz owned the No. 3 mark in ERA in the AAC this season at 3.61.
The Virginia Beach native ate up more innings than anyone else on staff this season (82.1 IP) over 17 starts, also the most among the Pirates. He was the starter on the mound for ECU’s second win of the Charlottesville Regional against Oklahoma.
Grosz owned the second-lowest batting average against in the conference behind Yesavage with his .212 average.
🔼 Carter Spivey, RHP. With a 4.68 ERA, Spivey held the fifth-best mark in the AAC this past season.
Spivey, a fifth-year senior, tied Yesavage for the team lead with seven wins across his 10 starts.
