🔼 Serve’s Up. The East Carolina lacrosse team has been recognized as the 2023 IWLCA Community Awareness Award team winner for Division I. The purpose of the Team Community Awareness Award is to recognize one team in each Division that has contributed significantly to their community during the previous academic year. Academics are not part of the award, and at least 50% of the team's roster must have participated in community service activities to be eligible for the award.

The Pirates were involved in numerous events and initiatives throughout the 2022-2023 academic year. Coordinated by Headstrong Foundation, the Pirates participated in raising money and awareness for cancer using their platform and their outreach in the community. East Carolina finished fifth out of 150 teams with the most funds raised from March to May.

The team also took part in the Morgan's Message Sidewalk Chalk event on March 31st. The Pirates have carried out several Pitt Lacrosse Events, a program in Greenville, North Carolina that allows the players to work closely with elementary school-aged girls in lacrosse. The ladies also make several visits to Elmhurst Elementary throughout the year and help out at gym classes and other school events.

🔼 Myles Ahead. East Carolina's Myles Berry has been named a recipient of the 2023 University Scholar-Athlete Award after completing his career in 2022 helping the Pirates post an 8-5 overall record which included a win over Coastal Carolina in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl last December.

During his tenure with the program, he appeared in 58 career games (22 starts) where he booked 148 tackles (78 solo) with 8.0 TFLs (-38 yards) and four sacks (-27 yards). A year ago, he tallied 65 stops (35 solo) while registering a personal-best in TFLs (4.5) and sacks (3.5). He was credited with at least one tackle in 41 of 58 contests with multiple stops on 29 occasions.

The 2022 team co-captain, two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic selection and multiple Military Bowl 3M STEM Scholar-Athlete graduated with a degree in industrial distribution and logistics in December of 2021, before receiving a master's degree in technology management this past May.

🔼 Three Cheers. We’re going back to back to back today! East Carolina has earned the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for a program record third-straight season. The Pirates produced a 3.63 team GPA during the 2023 spring semester—the highest mark in program history.

A total of 10 players checked in a 3.50 or higher while Alyssa Finister and Kenzie Beckham notched perfect 4.0 GPAs to land a spot on the Chancellor's List. The award began in 1992 and honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
