Pirate Brew 9/14: Taking Titles

Today, we're looking at Carter Busse's first collegiate tournament title.

Good morning. What comes around goes around and that’s very true when it comes to 90s fashion— high waisted jeans, miniskirt, crop top, combat boots, etc. So now that you know how to dress, come out to ‘90s Night at the Sept. 20 volleyball game where the best dressed fan will win a prize.

What else are we mixing into today's Brew?

🔼 Over East. Jon Debogory headed east from Gardner-Webb University to ECU as the new assistant track and field coach. Director of track and field Curt Kraft says Debogory has a proven recruitment record and knows how to develop student-athletes with all of his experience. He was a decathlete in college, so he will bring many skills to everyone on the team.

🔼 On the Board. In his junior year, Carter Busse snagged his first collegiate tournament title after hitting 10 under par in the River Run Collegiate. His score also marks the third-lowest 54-hole total in program history. The team ended in second place with a score of 839 (-1), just five shots behind Radford in first place.

🤔 PIRATES TRIVIA

Up to Par. The women’s golf team is picking up right where they left off last season. In the team’s first event for 2023-2024, they placed the same as they did in the American Athletic Conference Championship last season.

Today’s question—what place did the women finish in?

🏴‍☠️ Captain Crunch. The women’s basketball staff decided on who will be the captains of this year's team, and the results are in— Synia Johnson, Danae McNeal, and Micah Dennis. Dennis is a graduate student who’s entering her second year at ECU. Johnson is a senior who’s been a Pirate her whole collegiate career. McNeal is a graduate student who is entering her third season at ECU.

🏴‍☠️ Five and Six. The five women who competed at the Golfweek Fall Challenge finished in sixth place out of 18 teams. Nicole Nash finished tied for 10th in the individual rankings with a 216 (+3) total.
