Pirate Brew 8/28: Winning Weekend
Today, we're looking at soccer and volleyball racking up wins.
Good morning. It’s officially game week! In just five days, we’ll be watching East Carolina vs. Michigan in a real, live football game. Until then, watch Jack Powers host his final Power Hour episode. We laughed, we cried… we mostly laughed. Check it out here.
What else are we mixing into today's Brew?
⚽️ Shutout City: Population Us

🏴☠️ And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Back To Back. ECU women’s soccer put up a big win against George Mason, shutting them out 4-0. Not only was the score high, but the number of fans was also the fifth-largest crowd in Johnson Stadium history, with 863.
The first goal was shot by Samantha Moxie in the first half. The next three were second-half screamers from Jazmin Ferguson, Brooke Burzynski, and Elsa Stedman. The women finished the game out-shooting Mason 27-2 on shots (not a typo) and 11-2 in shots on goal (not a typo either).
They followed that up yesterday with another shutout victory, this time a 1-0 win over Campbell. Lucy Fazackerley got the lone goal in the first half, the first of her collegiate career!
🔼 One Up. The Pirates put the “Bash” in “Bash In The Boro” this past weekend, defeating UNC Greensboro twice for two victories in their first three matches of the season
The women hit a .290 with 41 kills in match one against the Spartans. The best rallies have to go to Carlia Northcross after she has three straight kills in a row. In match two, the Pirates had another 41 kills, and the defense had 51 digs. Angeles Alderete put up a match-high of 11 kills and no errors.
ECU didn’t have that same mojo in the match against Georgia Southern, unfortunately. The team only hit .125 compared to the Eagles' .234. Reagan Barth led the Pirates with 15 kills and a .256-hitting percentage.
The next volleyball match is on Thursday, and it starts the Pirate Invitational.
🤔 PIRATES TRIVIA
Shut them down. Goalkeeper Maeve English played the full 90 minutes in the shutout matches against George Mason and Campbell. In her four years at ECU, she has racked up double-digits in shutouts.
Today’s question—how many shutouts does the Pirate ‘keeper have?

🏴☠️ Newbies. Almost half of the baseball roster this year consists of newbies. There are a total of 22 incomers, which is made up of 12 position players and 10 pitchers. Read about the new athletes and what head coach Cliff Godwin has to say about the team.
🏴☠️ Pirate Taste. The best way to enjoy any ECU game is with a nice cold glass of Pirates Brew. The beverage will be sold at the stadium and stores near you. Hope you’re thirsty!
